On Sunday, April 6th, the 1sr Talentpool Women took place, marking an important step forward for the development of women's ice hockey in Belgium. The event brought together enthusiastic female players born between 2008 and 2012, laying the groundwork for the future of the national women’s program.
The main objective of the day was clear: get to know every young female player in Belgium, assess their current skill levels, and identify areas for development. By doing so, the women's program aims to refine its approach, better support young athletes, and uncover promising talent for the U18 national team.
The day was packed with activities, both on and off the ice. Participants took part in two on-ice sessions — one focused on test exercises and another on game situations — allowing coaches to evaluate individual and team performance in various settings. Off the ice, the girls were tested on their physical fitness .
A theoretical session emphasized the importance of off-ice training and proper nutrition. It also shed light on future possibilities within the sport beyond playing — such as becoming an official or a coach. These discussions aimed to inspire the girls and broaden their perspectives on long-term involvement in the hockey community.
More than just a day of assessments, the event fostered a supportive and empowering atmosphere. Many participants connected with fellow players from other regions, laying the foundation for friendships and future collaborations on and off the ice.
