Dunedin, New Zealand.

At the Women's Ice Hockey World Championship Division IIB, Belgium faced a tough match against a well-organized Ukrainian team. The Belgians started well but couldn’t keep up with their opponent’s efficiency. The game ended in a 6-1 win for Ukraine.

Belgium got off to a strong start. In the opening period, Anke Steeno (#9) put her team ahead with a nice assist from Femke Bosmans (#19). However, Ukraine responded immediately, scoring the equalizer within a minute during a powerplay. Just before the end of the first period, they took the lead 2-1 with another powerplay goal.

In the second period, Ukraine firmly took control of the game. With three more goals, they extended their lead significantly, while Belgium struggled to turn the tide.

The third period was more balanced. Belgium managed to limit the damage and showed more structure in defense. Despite conceding a sixth goal, the Belgian defense held up better.

Tomorrow, Belgium will face Australia, who are competing for gold.

Jirne Wagemans (#8) was named MVP on the Belgian side for her performance.
